The Center of Competence of Carbon Test Areas Pilot Project has released a press brochure covering all the test areas and details of the project's activities

The Carbon Measurements Test Area pilot project, initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, aims to address the challenges of evaluating fluxes of greenhouse gases across various ecosystems in Russia and develop technologies for greenhouse gas sequestration.

In order to establish an effective greenhouse gas monitoring system in Russia, equipped with efficient technologies and methods, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education launched a project in 2021. This project focuses on creating a network of scientific and educational test sites for the development, testing, and validation of technologies that quantify emission potentials and sequestration across different types of ecosystems. The strategic objective of this pilot project is to assess the potential of Russian ecosystems in ensuring the sequestration of climate-active gases.

As of early 2023, there are 17 active Carbon Measurement Test Areas in Russia, each operating under its own program to achieve the overarching goals of the project.

To showcase the efforts of individual Test Areas and the pilot project as a whole, the Center of Competence has published an informational brochure that covers all currently operating Test Areas and provides details on the activities conducted under the Carbon Measurements Test Area project program.
